Mayor Kevin Ward is no more. It has been announced by the City of Hyattsville, Maryland, on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, that the Mayor has died. As the news was announced, several people started searching for his cause of death and what happened suddenly that he passed away. Well, it is reported that Kevin Ward died from an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound. Hardly a year had passed him being elected as the leader of the city, he died. As per the reports, Kevin Ward was found in Fort Marcy Park which is located in McLean on Tuesday, Jan 25. The city issued an official statement where they stated that they are announcing the passing of their beloved Hyattsville Mayor with great sadness. The statement read that Kevin died on January 25 and it is expected that he shot himself to death. It was also added that the Mayor was a trusted and valued leader and was also a fierce advocate. The city wrote that they are heartbroken to learn about his death and went on to extend their deepest sympathy to his family.

How Did Kevin Ward Die?

The city’s statement went on as they said that the Mayor was a well-related member of their tight-knit community and that the news is quite difficult to process. They also provided contact numbers for the people who might see any kind of mental health support or grief counselling. Talking about Kevin Ward, in 2014, he had moved to Hyattsville after adopting two sons with his husband. He went on to serve two terms on Hyattsville City Council. At the beginning of 2021, Kevin had become the interim mayor of the city. With 58 per cent of the votes, he was elected to that role later.

In educational technology, Kevin had also worked as a consultant. On his website, he had revealed that he likes sneakers over dress shoes and liked the roar of a V8 as much as he likes the whir of an electronic car. Ward had also said that he believes that laughter is the best medicine. Sharing more on his website, Kevin has said that he focuses more on listening than talking but once he starts talking, he is not one to mince words. His elder son is a high-school graduate while his younger son is in the eighth standard. May his soul rest in peace!
