Free State Premier Sefora Ntombela has confirmed the passing of Butana Komphela on Monday, January 24, 2021. Yes, the former Free State MEC for Police, Roads, and Transport, has sadly died on Monday afternoon and has left all his loved ones to mourn. Sharing the passing of Butana, Defora wrote that she is deeply saddened after learning about his demise and went ahead to describe him as a loyal, patriotic, and passionate man whose absence will always affect the people and that the void he has left will be difficult to fill.
Sefora Ntombela said that she has known Butana for several years and that his death has made her extremely saddened. She added that it was a pleasure working with him when they both served in the Free State Provincial Government as MECs. Now, the news of his demise has shattered her and she is still finding it hard to believe that he is no more. Ntomebla called Butana Komphela a computer and said that he was one of a kind. Expressing her sadness, she wrote that she is absolutely devastated by this terrible news and so are the people of the province.
Who Was Butana Komphela?
Other than Sefora, other people also came forward and paid him sincere tributes. As per reports, Khompela was admitted to Bloemfontein hospital last month and was suffering from ongoing virus complications. Although his cause of death has not been confirmed yet, it has been reported that he died of the virus only. Various sources and sites have shared the unfortunate news but no one seems to have much information regarding his death. The only thing which is known by us is that Khompela was 65-year-old at the time of his passing and was surrounded by his family and loved ones, reportedly.
Talking about Butana Komphela, he was the former health MEC in the Free State and was a kind-hearted man who served as National Assembly Sports Committee Chair. Earlier sources have claimed that the member of the executive council (MEC) was allegedly found guilty of culpable homicide. He was charged and then later sentenced for three years on 22nd Nov in the Brandfort Magistrate’s Court. He was found guilty for his involvement in the 50-year-old Samuel Manyova accident. However, later, it was discovered that the area where the accident happened was a high accident zone. Butana Komphela’s death has really shaken everyone to the core.
