Karen Phillips death – obituary, cause of death, whats happened?

Karen Anne Phillips (born 4 May 1966), married Karen Anne Higgison, was an Australian butterfly and individual medley swimmer in the 1980s who Won a silver medal in the 200m butterfly at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Phillips, who grew up in Nora, NSW, was selected to represent Australia in the 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley, but had poor expectations, narrowly making it to the 200m butterfly final and narrowly missing the 400m individual medley final. Although she was far behind Mary T. Migue of the United States, she won the silver medal with a personal best of 2:10.56, even though Mieg had a 7m lead.

Two years later, at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland, Phillips enjoyed greater success, winning silver in the 200m butterfly and bronze in the 4 x 100m medley relay.

She was the inaugural winner of the Australian Sports Federation’s Athlete of the Year in 1983-84.
