The gang war in Sydney broke out again and Ghassan Amoun, the brother of the crime leader Bassam Hamzy, was shot and killed in a daytime attack.

Sources said that just before 1 pm, Amoun was shot multiple times on Rosen Road in South Wentworthville. Initial police investigations revealed that a car found near Una and Smith Streets was related to this incident.

As a senior member of the Hamzy criminal network, Amoun has been subject to a serious crime prevention order (SCPO), and the police are working hard to quell the ongoing discord with the Alameddine clan.

He was sentenced to jail for violating the SCPO last year and was not released until earlier this week.

Amoun’s shooting occurred after his brother Mejid Hamzy and his cousin Bilal Hamze were fatally attacked in 2020.

His lawyer claimed that the underworld figure Bassam Hamzi’s younger brother was sentenced to 117 days in jail for using a friend’s mobile phone to have an extramarital affair and forgetting to tell the police that he had replaced the car’s license plate.

However, the court learned that Ghassan Amoun was not involved in the bloody underworld battle that shook Sydney and took the lives of his brother Mejid and cousin Bilal Hamze.

Amoun, 35, pleaded guilty to violating a serious crime prevention order designed to monitor the actions of members of the Hamzy clan. He will be sentenced to 12 months in prison.
